GARDEN FENCEGATE & MAIL SLOT
In the late 1970’s, the house on this property was drawn by Frank Welch for a general contractor, and the contractor built it as his own personal residence.
From 2008 to 2010 while I was working in the office of Max Levy Architect, we executed a major remodel project for this house and property.
Part of the project included designing a visually permeable fence to create physical separation between the street and the house’s garden.
The house is a simple compilation of well-proportioned boxes wrapped in redwood siding . . . and the delicate lines of this steel fence were made to match those of the siding.
In addition to having a minimal presence, the steel fence was also designed to streamline its making. It was cut and fabricated entirely from standard flat sheets of weathering steel.
