ELT BUILDINGWAREHOUSE STUDIO
This warehouse was built new near downtown Dallas as studio space for an artisan.
The building’s form, materials, and detailing are meant to tell a simple narrative of ascension from the industrial, urban context.
The three primary materials imply that the building burst through the ground plane, formed its base from what was broken, and continued rising to a resolved state.
1 . The crushed concrete ground cover implies that the sloped ground plane was – at one time – broken through.
2 . The exposed shotcrete grade beam acts as a medium for what’s below and above, taking on the color of the crushed concrete below while establishing shape for the wall panels above.
3 . The vertically corrugated steel wall panels enhance the height of the building’s simple form and express resolve as it ascends.
