ELT RESTROOMWAREHOUSE STUDIO
As studio space for an artisan, JDS also designed the building in which this restroom box sits.
The restroom was designed for one occupant with utmost utility in mind. The client assembled the custom pre-fab steel parts by installing common rivets through precisely-located, pre-cut holes.
The following restroom components were cut and brake-formed from six sheets of 16 gauge hot-rolled steel and were delivered to the site: wall panels . door . sliding door hardware . grab bars . toilet paper holder . tensile members . and a slot for a sink / table.
Slicing through a corner of the steel box is an implement of both function and sentiment. The client had originally hand-crafted the assembly from 1/4” bronze plate to be used as a lavish residential lavatory. Repurposed for this application, it now serves as a studio sink inside the restroom and a presentation table out in the main space.
