880 LANDSCAPEDECKS . BASINS . BEDS
This is a project where JDS, Inc. realized the remodel of an architecturally significant house, and a major part of the project was to completely rework the hardscape and landscape of the property. All of the existing pool, paving, and landscaping components were removed, and the new design program called for more ‘livable’ space at the house’s exterior.
With the site having approximately 30 feet of natural grade change where the house sits, the design solution creates ‘layers of livability’ between the house’s interior space and the raw nature surrounding it.
The wood decks adjacent to the house provide generous level surfaces for foot traffic and outdoor furnishings. The steel basins contain flat areas for planting and organized terracing of the sloped grade. The gravel beds provide minimal earth retainage and act as a medium between the livable outdoor spaces and their native surroundings.
